Cephantom
Phasmateuthis galaxia

Also known as the Ghost Squid, Cephantoms strike fear into many spacefaring vessels. The "Kraken of the Kosmos" is a nickname passed around in stories told by space pirates who had surivived encounters with the colossal cephalopod.

Born(?) from the shadows of a dying star, Cephantoms are creatures of the darkness. Due to their "ghastly" appearance, it was originally thought these creatures weren't even alive, but figments of imagination. Cephantoms dwarf Earth's own largest squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) in terms of mass by several feet. It, unlike its sea bound counterparts weigh no less than a feather due to its near "spectral" physique. This attributes to their famous ability to turn nearly invisible and phase through most matter. A Cephantom sports eight tentacles; Two tipped at the ends with sharp luminescent hooks and another two with a torn cloth-like appearance. The two hooked tentacle arms are used to reap the souls of unlucky voyagers; A Cephantom's favorite snack. Luckily, the populations of Cephantoms across the galaxy are rare, only sightings being in quadrants where darkness is prevalent.

Despite their fearsome reputation and abilities, Cephantoms are not invulnerable. Cephantoms shun the light, as direct contact with it makes the giant space squids lose their ability to turn invisible/phase temporarily. The natural predator of the Cephantom is the Space Whale, who preys on these massive cephalopods on a regular basis. A battle in which a Space Whale paralyzed a Cephantom has been observed and documented in the year 6035.

Cephantoms lack any notable material, save for Ectoplasm which is expelled from the squid in a similar manner to an Earth squid's ink. Although ill-favored by many, Ectoplasm from a Cephantom is a rare primitive light source used by some old-fashioned races across the universe.

Man.. I wish this was a real thing. I love Krakens, and space Krakens are even more epic. Especially the look of this one!
